The Leader's Toolbox: The Leader's Toolbox: When You See the Chief's Son in a Suggestive Photo

When an officer comes across a hot button issue, it can leave them in an awkward position. But their duties require them to mitigate any potential problems before they grow out of control.

In this edition of The Leader’s Toolbox, host and Fire Chief Richard B. Gasaway helps an assistant chief who comes across a photograph of the chief’s son in a sexually suggestive pose with one of the department’s female firefighters. Hear what advice Gasaway offers.

He also offers help to a volunteer fire officer who is upset by the actions of some people in his station. The firefighters often feel they are above the rules and regulations. Tune in to find out how to enforce rules without playing favorites.

  6. Fire Chief Gasaway,

I recently attended the 2009 WV Public Safety Expo which was held at the Charleston Civic Center, Charleston Wv, and I had the great privelage to set in on your opening speech and also maintaining your situation awareness under stress class. After attending both classes I realized what great information I had learned and shared it with my fellow firefighters. I personally would like to thank you for sharing your outstanding advice and look forward to reading articles and future speeches you present. May god bless you, your family, and your department
