Firehouse Magazine Insider: November 2008
In this month’s edition of the Firehouse Magazine Insider, Editor Peter Matthews talks with Dr. Richard B. Gasaway, about his article “Developing and Maintaining Fireground Command Situation Awareness - Part 1″.
The article is based on the research conducted by Dr. Gasaway, the Chief of the Rosville, MN, Fire Department, for his doctoral degree. The focus was on firefighter line-of-duty death and near-miss reports that were tracked back to the lack of awareness of key factors on the fireground.
Chief Gasaway talks about the tedious research and offers several of his findings to increase safety through situation awareness for incident commanders and those operating in the fireground.
The article appears on page 78 in the November issue of Firehouse Magazine.
